If you hear loud noises and see lots of police officers and deputies at LifePointe Church and Umatilla Middle School this week, don’t be alarmed! The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is conducting active assailant training for all School Resource Deputies and Officers. The sessions will be held on Thursday, August 6, at LifePointe Church, 3551 E Orange Ave. in Eustis, and on Friday, August 7, at Umatilla Middle School, 305 E Lake Street in Umatilla. The interactive training will include simulated gunfire and student actors to create real-life scenarios. Thank you to all involved for everything you do to keep our Lake County Schools campuses safe!

Students and staff were asked to “Purple Up!” today, April 15, 2026, by wearing purple as a visible way to show support and thank military children. Purple was chosen because it is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military. It is a combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine Corps red, Space Force blue and Navy blue. Did you purple up? April is the Month of the Military Family in Florida! The Month of the Military Family provides communities with an opportunity to honor and share gratitude for the service of military children. This year, we invite you to “Purple Up!” on April 15, 2026, by wearing purple as a visible way to show support and thank military children. Purple was chosen because it is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military. It is a combination of Army green, Coast Guard blue, Air Force blue, Marine Corps red, Space Force blue and Navy blue.
