Title I
What is Title I?
Title I is a program funded by the federal government to improve students' academic achievement. Title I funds are used to expand and supplement the services children already receive in the classroom. Administration, teachers, and parents decide how to use these funds. The amount provided for each school depends on the number of low-income families enrolled in the school.
How can I, as a parent, help?
There are many ways parents can be involved in their child's education. Parents are encouraged to participate on Umatilla Middle School's School Advisory Council (SAC). This group meets several times a year to determine how Title I funds will be used for the school year.

It is our goal to make sure every student on campus has what he or she needs to succeed academically. This can go beyond the basic every day school supply needs. Sometimes our students need help with food, clothing, shoes, and personal hygiene items to make their day a success. In addition, we want to make sure that no student goes without during the summer, Thanksgiving , Christmas, or spring breaks. If we can help our students with outside needs, we know that, ultimately, they will be more successful in the classroom!

Out of Field Teachers
Dear Parents/Guardians:
All educators in Florida are monitored to ensure they meet certification and training requirements as mandated by law. ESSA (Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015) established new requirements for teachers to be considered "in field." Not all teachers have met these new requirements and this notice is to keep parents informed regarding the status of their child's teacher(s).
All of Umatilla Middle School's teachers are certified to teach, although some of them are currently out-of-field and are working on additional areas of certification. Parents have the right to know the professional qualifications of the teachers or paraprofessionals who instruct their child. Federal law allows parents to ask for certain information about their child's teachers and requires Umatilla Middle School to give parents this information in a timely manner when asked for it. If a parent needs additional information, please contact the school.
